Upper School World History Teacher
The Upper School 9th grade World History Teacher is responsible for designing, organizing, and delivering an innovative and engaging history curriculum that inspires students to explore global civilizations, cultures, and events from ancient times to the present. This role is integral in fostering a dynamic and supportive learning environment where students develop critical thinking, research, analytical, and communication skills. Under the guidance of the Division Director, the World History Teacher will work to connect historical understanding with contemporary global issues, empowering students to become informed, thoughtful, and responsible global citizens.

Essential Functions
Curriculum Development and Instruction:
Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging history lessons that emphasize global awareness, critical thinking, and the application of historical knowledge to modern-day contexts.
Lesson Design:
Develop structured, student-centered lesson plans and assessments that align with school-wide goals and academic standards, meeting the diverse needs of learners.
Historical Mentorship:
Guide students in developing research skills, analytical writing, and evidence-based argumentation. Encourage independent thought and meaningful connections between past and present.
Assessment and Feedback:
Provide timely and constructive feedback on assignments, projects, and discussions. Use assessment data to inform instruction and support student growth.
Classroom Management:
Maintain a respectful, inclusive, and focused classroom environment by establishing clear expectations and building positive relationships with students.
Record Keeping:
Maintain accurate records of student progress, assessment results, and academic performance in accordance with school policies and reporting requirements.
Communication with Stakeholders:
Regularly communicate with students, parents, and colleagues regarding student progress, curriculum updates, and areas for improvement.
Extracurricular Involvement:
Support school-wide initiatives and history-related extracurriculars such as debate clubs, Model UN, history fairs, or international awareness events.
School Community Engagement:
Attend faculty meetings, professional development sessions, and school events. Maintain a visible and engaged presence within the school community.

Perform additional tasks as assigned by school leadership, contributing to the ongoing development and success of the school’s academic and community programs.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- Educational Background: B.A./B.S. degree in Education, History or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Teaching Certification: Valid teaching certification in History or a related subject area.
- Interpersonal Skills: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, students, and parents.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication abilities with the capacity to explain complex literary and linguistic concepts in an accessible and engaging manner.
- Technology Proficiency: Competency in using relevant educational technologies and digital tools to support World History instruction and student learning.
- Bilingual Skills: Fluency in both English and Spanish
- Compliance: Must meet all legal requirements, including Law 300, a valid teaching certificate, health certification, and any other relevant documentation.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Involves standing, walking, and actively supervising students both indoors and outdoors under a variety of weather condition.
- Occasionally, be able to lift, push, pull, or carry equipment and materials weighing 30 pounds or more.
- May deal with highly stressful situations in the normal course of duties.
- Tasks are regularly performed with some risk of exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as humidity, rain, and temperature extremes.
