College Counseling

Our College Counseling team guides our Upper School students through the college selection process by providing academic planning beginning in the Grade 9 and continuing through the application and selection process.

We guide and support students and parents through the application and essay writing process for pre-college summer programs, fly-in programs, and college admission. We strive to match students with universities that are selective and best fit the individual student’s interests and talents.

TASIS Dorado students gain admission to highly competitive colleges both abroad and on the island. We write personal recommendations for all U.S. college applicants. College representatives form Puerto Rico and the U.S. visit our campus throughout the first semester of each year, offering informational sessions, and, in some cases, interviews.

The Writing Center staff help students with all aspects of the writing requirements for the college application process, from brainstorming through final draft and submission. Writing requirements include the personal statement, all supplemental essays, fly-in applications, resumes, wait list letters of continued interest, and scholarship applications. The Writing Center staff will also help students with applications for summer programs.

Graduation Requirements

A minimum of 25 credits is required for graduation, including English (4 credits), Spanish (4 credits), Mathematics (4 credits), Sciences (3 credits in lab sciences), History/Social Sciences (4 credits), Foreign Language or Innovation Sciences (2 credits or proficiency), Electives (2 credits, one of which must be in the visual or performing arts) and Physical Education (2 credits). All High School Students must complete the Exploration Week Program all four years. Students may take additional credits. There is a requirement of 100 hours of community service by the end of Upper School. Students acquire technological competence through both our integrated technology curriculum and our BYOD program.

Standardized Testing

TASIS Dorado manages and oversees various standardized tests such as ERB, PIENSE I and II, PSAT 8/9, PSAT/NMSQT, APs, Pruebas de Nivel Avanzado (PNA), and SAT School Day that are exclusively available to TASIS Dorado students. Additionally, we function as an SAT test center on Saturdays, open to all registered students. If needed, our College Counselors can assist with registering for the SAT, ACT, and TOEFL tests.
