Middle School

Middle School marks the beginning of an exciting time for students when they will explore their interests through rigorous, inquiry-based curricula in core subjects, elective courses, and clubs.

From Project-Based Learning, STEAM activities in the FabLab, integrated E.D. Hirsch’s Core Knowledge Curriculum, our famous Exploration Bear Challenge, a new Marine Biology Research Program in Grade 7, and Sustainable Future Research Program in Grade 8, to traveling opportunities to Space Camp at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center and Washington D.C., our students get to live different experiences that enrich and guide their way to Upper School.

As students develop individual talents and interests, advanced Math courses are available to qualified students who will likely pursue Advanced Placement classes in Upper School. Additionally, students become eligible for the Honor Roll, High Honor Roll, or Highest Honor Roll, and, in the Seventh Grade, for the National Junior Honor Society.

Additionally, The Social Institute, a social-emotional learning program integrated into an advisory program, is designed to guide students through their secondary school years. As a Student Engagement initiative of the Dean of Students, middle school students also learn interpersonal relationship skills through the Second Step program. These programs provide students with the tools to clarify their strengths, learn to manage challenges and stress, problem-solve, and establish goals and priorities, supporting our effort to ensure that student wellness is equally as important as academic success.

Middle School ends with an eighth grade ceremony that includes the recognition of character, leadership, and community service, along with academic awards and the designation of a Valedictorian, Salutatorian, and TASIS Dorado Scholar.
