The Arts

The Arts are vital part of each student's day, fostering both creativity and an appreciation for beauty. Beginning in preschool, students explore art, music, or theater throughout the educational journey. Students learn to express themselves through diverse artistic languages and symbols, develop skills in reflective observation, and understand the creative processes behind various forms of artistic expression. They also gain an appreciation for the historical, philosophical, and cultural traditions of our country and others. These experiences build students’ confidence in problem-solving, inspire their creativity, and, most importantly, nurture independent thinking.

Elementary Showcase Program

Our Visual and Performing Arts Program (VAPA) provides opportunities for our students to showcase their talents, gain stage presence, develop self-esteem, perfect their enunciation, and develop memorization, communication, and acting skills. These performances occur regularly, beginning in PPK and continue through Grade 4. Students develop confidence and a natural ability t0o speak and perform in front of an audience. Our fifth graders spend the year in their TAP 5 class developing a musical performance that culminates in a community presentation, with students leading every aspect of the production, including performance, music, choreography, set and prop design, costumes, marketing, and public relations - supported and guided by their teachers.

Middle & High School Arts

All Middle School students have the opportunity to take more specialized classes within art, music, drama, and culinary arts classes such as Band, the History of Puerto Rican Theater, or Ceramics, while Upper School students have a wide range of elective choices, including Studio Art to Stage Band, Vocals, Drama in Literature, Batucada, Rock Band, All-School Musical, and Musical Theater. Students from many disciplines come together to produce annual musicals and assemblies. Plays and other performances are a regular element of many core classes.
