Drama
Elementary School
Elementary students all take a trimester of Drama. Classes first focus on developing self-awareness, awareness of surrounding and discipline, through games and exercises that emphasize focus, concentration and creativity. Students learn increasingly sophisticated techniques as the foundation of their dramatic talents. All Elementary students have numerous opportunities to demonstrate their talents to their classmates, schoolmates and families throughout the year in classroom presentation, assemblies, end-of-trimester Creative Showcases and the annual Holiday Show. Elementary students may also audition for the annual school musical.
Fifth Grade Musical
In a special arrangement with Music Theatre International, TASIS Dorado students work throughout the year to compose and produce a musical, fondly known as TAP 5. Students and their VAPA teachers work on every component from performance to music, make-up and costume design, choreography, set design, lighting, props and carpentry. Recent productions include Disney's Annie, 101 Dalmatians, The Lion King, Moana, and The Aristocats. The TAP 5 is always a tremendous production hosted in our Louis R. Christiansen Performing Arts Center.
Middle & High School Drama
Students in Grades 6 to 12 are engaged in various forms of drama, including Acting, Musical Theatre, and Advanced Acting.
In Acting, students learn acting rules, techniques, and methods while creating polished performances through exercises, projects, and games. They research, analyze, visualize, and perform while also learning film and video editing and the differences between acting for the stage, television, and film industries.
Musical Theatre teaches singing, acting, and movement in various styles. It builds skills for analyzing lyrics, character development, and stage performances. The class ensemble performs musical songs. Students learn to overcome stage fright and build confidence. Second semester focuses on stage makeup, SFX, and digital portfolio creation.
Advanced Acting offers the opportunity to practice acting skills through monologues and scenes portraying characters from different literary styles. It also covers various aspects of the entertainment industry, including audition preparation, agent communication, acting for TV, stage and film, directing, and producing. Students are challenged to overcome obstacles as trained performers, while also developing leadership, problem-solving, and quick-thinking skills.
