Music

Elementary School

Music learning begins with our youngest students as all students Grades PPK to 5 spend a full trimester on music. Children participate in both choral and instrumental activities. They learn musical notation; play the xylophone, recorder and percussion; study the orchestra and musical masterpieces. Each trimester ends with a Creative Showcase performance for parents.

Middle School

Middle school students have the opportunity to take Band and spend the term learning to read music and play the instrument of their choice, such as clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, tuba, bass guitar, drums, flute, and more. They may also choose vocal music in the 6th grade. Each semester ends with a concert performance that is part of each student's grade in the course. Musical choices, which the students learn over the semester, include choices from jazz, pop, classical, and classic rock. Eighth-grade students may also audition for musical groups, including the Concert Band, Rock Band, Jazz Band, and Batucada Band.

Upper School

Upper School students may choose to fulfill elective requirements with music classes including Instrumental Music I and II, Concert Band I and II, Jazz Music Theory and Improvisation, and Advanced Placement Music Theory. Students may also audition for musical groups including the Concert Band, Rock Band, Jazz Band, and Batucada Band.
