The Arts
The Arts are a vital part of each student's day as they learn to both create and appreciate beauty. Starting in pre-school, our students study art, music, or theater every trimester, and students in Grade 5 combine all three in an amazing year-long, student-centered created musical performance.
VAPA Elementary Showcase Program
Frequent artistic presentations with active student participation provide opportunities for our students to show their talents and knowledge, gain stage presence, develop self-esteem, perfect their enunciation and develop memorization and acting skills. These presentations occur with regularity beginning in PPK. In the final year of elementary school, students in Grade 5 work on a year-long project, fondly referred to as TAP5, that culminates with a musical. Every aspect of the production, performance, music, choreography, set & prop design, costumes, marketing & public relations, is student led, with support and guidance from their teachers. Our Visual Arts & Performing Arts program (VAPA) encourages confidence and a natural ability to speak and perform in front of an audience.
Middle & High School VAPA
All Middle School students take more specialized Art, Music and Drama classes such as Band, the History of Puerto Rican Theater, or Ceramics, while Upper School students have a wide range of elective choices, including Studio Art to Stage Band, Vocals, Drama in Literature, Batucada, Rock Band, A Cappella, All-School Musical, and Musical Theater. Students from many disciplines come together to produce annual musicals and assemblies. Plays and other performances are a regular element of many core classes.
