Elementary School
TASIS Dorado promotes a holistic, student-centered educational experience with excellent teaching, social-emotional learning experiences, and an engaging, content-rich curriculum starting with our full-day program in PPK through Grade 5.
Our elementary curriculum offers both traditional and innovative elements and is supplemented by a variety of social and cultural activities. Everything we do is marked by our Responsive Classroom program, which supports the social-emotional component of our students as well as academics. Our key areas of academic instruction include E.D. Hirsch's Core Knowledge Curriculum as our base framework for Language Arts, Science and Social Studies. As a way to reinforce writing skills, we implement the Lucy Calkin’s Writer's Workshop approach which provides grade-level guidelines for 3 main genres of writing: Narrative, Informational, and Opinion. For reading, the Making Meaning program covers targeted reading and comprehension skills by grade level. Lastly, we use the Singapore Math approach used through the HMH Math in Focus curriculum. In addition, we offer Spanish and Spanish as a Second Language, Physical Education, Visual and Performing Arts. Responsive Classroom, our social-emotional learning program.
In 2015, the Middle States Association Commissions on Elementary and Secondary Schools awarded TASIS Dorado its Program of Distinction in Early Childhood Education. TASIS Dorado was the first school in Puerto Rico and the U.S. to receive this recognition. The Early Childhood Education Program of Distinction recognizes schools that demonstrate dedication to early learning through a rich, child-centered philosophy and best practices that focus on exploration, questions, creativity, social-emotional development, and cognitive skills.
