TASIS DORADO STUDENT IN THE NEWS
Juliette Osguthorpe, TASIS Dorado class of 2021, is serving as a U.S. Senate Page in Washington, D.C. while attending the Congressional Page School Program for a semester. She is interning for Senator Mike Lee of Utah.
Yesterday, we watched Juliette live on C-Span2 as she delivered the handwritten questions from Senators to Chief Justice John Roberts during the impeachment proceedings. She is scheduled to work the late shift today, so we may see more of her on TV!
There are 30 Senate page positions, 16 for the majority party and 14 for the minority party. According to the U.S. Senate website, pages serve principally as messengers. They carry documents between the House and Senate, Members' offices, committees, and the Library of Congress. They prepare the Senate chamber for each day's business by distributing the Congressional Record and other documents related to the day's agenda; assist in the cloakrooms and chambers; and when Congress is in session, they sit near the dais where they may be summoned by Members for assistance.
At TASIS Dorado, Juliette is an honor student and the former junior class secretary. She has been an eager participant in numerous extracurriculars such as Model UN, Photography Club, Bee Club, Interact Club, Tennis, and Basketball teams, and the National Honor Society. In addition, Juliette is a proficient cello player.
Last summer, Juliette studied Chinese (Mandarin) in Taiwan through a National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y) scholarship. NSLI-Y is a program of the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.
