TASIS Dorado 2020: A Model for Resilience, Innovation, and Social Commitment

TASIS DORADO CLASS OF 2020 celebrated its grand entrance in August 2019 with joy, hope, and goals to fulfill during the school year, and, despite all adversity, it did so.

The grit and character that defines these 53 Seniors have been key to face with resilience this historic global challenge. Also, that character has contributed to the great success achieved, such as obtaining 100% of acceptances to competitive 4-year colleges and universities in the United States, Puerto Rico and abroad, 254 admissions, $ 2 million in merit scholarships, 6 candidates to the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program, among others. The achievements are the result of the hard work and dedication of each student, along with the support and guidance of the TD College Counseling and Writing Center.

TASIS Dorado managed to develop and celebrate with the graduating class 2020 traditional activities in virtual or remote format, such as Spirit Week, Senior Legacies, Senior Farewell, and Draft Day. This was possible thanks to the advanced technological infrastructure it has, which allows it to respond actively and quickly to any situation that requires it. Thanks to the creativity, effort, and skill of the administration and faculty, they successfully launched an online program called TASIS Dorado Distance Learning Hub on their website: tasisdorado.com. It includes school calendar, homework, tutorials, assessments, online courses, and technology support for students and parents. Additionally, they use online programs that allow them to identify and impact emotional factors that compromise students' health and well-being. The faculty has demonstrated an incredible level of dedication, collaboration, and professionalism throughout this experience and managed to keep their school community together, even at a distance.

Another impactful story during this time of distancing was the alliance of TASIS Dorado STEAM Fab Lab with the University of Puerto Rico, where they designed and printed on the school's 3D printers, more than 2,000 face shields. They have been donated to first responders and patients. Its social mission has always been to impact communities in need and, now, to contribute to the fight against COVID-19.

"We are proud of our distance learning plan, but we have validated that there is nothing like being together in the classroom. Our mission is to continue working and developing academic plans and safety protocols for the upcoming school year. The experience we've had with distance learning, without a doubt, provided us with a completely new paradigm of the school experience. I am confident that we will return stronger and with the necessary tools to continue offering our education of excellence. We really miss seeing our students sharing, creating, and learning on our beautiful campus!" exclaimed Dr. Timothy Howard, Head of School at TASIS Dorado.
